LONDON, CMC – Grenada international Kairo Mitchell found the winner with his ninth season goal as Rochdale rallied from a goal down to beat Aldershot Town 2-1 in the National League on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was on target with a clinical header in the 79th minute to break the deadlock at Spotland Stadium in north-west England, handing the hosts their second win in three outings and an essential result following a 3-2 loss to Wealdstone last weekend.

Rochdale lies ninth on 27 points in the standings, led by Chesterfield on 47.

Hoping for a strong start, Rochdale fell behind in the 37th minute when Jack Barham got into the area, took a pass, and finished nicely in the bottom corner.

However, the lead lasted only five minutes, Mitchell getting possession of a rebound and teeing up Jimmy Keohane, who beat goalkeeper Jordi van Stappershoef.

With the game deadlocked 1-1 at the break, Rochdale took control of the contest in the second half with a dominant performance and was rewarded with their second goal.

Devante Rodney, on the field for only two minutes, received a corner and played a pass into Adam Clayton, who strung a cross at the back post for Mitchell to head home.

“We work hard on their moments, trying to stop them and trying to score them,” manager Jimmy McNulty said of the well-worked set piece.

“They contribute to successful seasons no end – they’re a significant game factor.

“We pay them as much attention as possible, work them, and hope they come to fruition on days like today. We got a reward from that today.”

Rochdale host Altrincham in their next league game on Tuesday night.
