LONDON, CMC – Former Jamaica youth international Jevani Brown has remained sidelined because of a “club disciplinary matter,” His manager at English League One outfit Exeter City has not put a timescale on when his top scorer will return to the team.

The 28-year-old forward did not feature in Exeter’s 2-1 home defeat by Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The nature of the disciplinary issue remains unclear.

Brown has the second-highest goal contributions in League One this season, having scored 14 times and provided nine assists.

He was the subject of a bid from rivals Portsmouth late in the January transfer window, but Exeter – nicknamed the Grecians – turned it down.

On Thursday, manager Gary Caldwell said Brown and fellow transfer target Josh Key were “fully committed and ready to give everything for the club until the end of the season.”

“He [Brown] missed training on Thursday and Friday, and he missed the game today,” Caldwell said after Saturday’s match.

“We have standards at this football club, and if you don’t rise to them or match what we expect of you, no matter who you are, you won’t play on a Saturday.”

In the game, Caldwell made a surprise change before the half-hour mark when his side was already 2-0 down by replacing Jack Sparkes with Demetri Mitchell, 26, who says he wants to play for the Reggae Boyz as his grandparents were born in Jamaica. The substitute got City back into the game when he volleyed in Jake Caprice’s cross after 31 minutes.

Fifth-tier National League side Wealdstone has signed Swansea City winger Tarrelle Whittaker, of Jamaican descent, on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for the Championship club.
