LONDON, CMC – Former Bermuda captain Reggie Lambe, the island’s most capped footballer, joined leaders AFC Sudbury after completing a move from the English club’s Isthmian League North Division rivals, Stowmarket Town.

The club confirmed that midfielder Lambe, who turned 32 on Saturday with 46 Bermuda caps under his belt, agreed to the terms of an undisclosed deal.

“AFC Sudbury is delighted to announce the signing of Bermudan International Reggie Lambe, who has recently left Stowmarket Town,” a statement on the club’s official website indicated.

“Reggie has a wealth of experience, having played professionally for Ipswich, Bristol Rovers, Carlisle, and Cambridge, as well as Toronto FC and Nykopings [in Sweden], and has played 46 times for his country.

“It’s Reggie’s birthday [on Saturday], and what better present could there be than to go straight into the match-day squad for the game against Lowestoft?

“On a personal note, it is a relief to see Reggie here at the club playing for us rather than against us, now having witnessed him netting twice against us already this season in both FA Cup ties we played against Stowmarket earlier this season.

“He has ten goals so far this season. Here’s to seeing that rise steadily over the rest of the season.”

Lambe joined Stowmarket three years ago, and he went on to score 20 goals in 65 appearances.

“Reggie Lambe moves on,” the Stowmarket statement added. “Thank you, Reggie Lambe, for your exceptional talent and energetic contributions to Stowmarket Town. Your support has been greatly appreciated. I wish you all the best and good luck.

“Sincere thanks to [Lambe] for everything during his time at Stow. A player that has left us with great memories. All the very best for the future Reggie.”

Lambe, who made his international debut 16 years ago against St Kitts & Nevis at 16, became the most capped Bermudian footballer in a 2-1 defeat against Guyana last summer, surpassing Damon Ming’s then-record of 43 caps.
