LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy prospect Cameron Archer has been backed to return to Aston Villa and make an impact with the Premier League side after impressing on his current loan stint with Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

Clinton Morrison, the former Crystal Palace and Coventry City striker who now serves as a pundit on Sky Sports, labeled the 21-year-old Archer a quality player after watching him net his 11th goal of the season from 17 appearances.

“He is a [quality] player. He will go back to Villa and be amongst their squad next season without a shadow of a doubt,” said the 43-year-old Morrison, a former Republic of Ireland international.

“He scores goals for fun. The combination between him and (Chuba) Akpom is a 10. He is just an outstanding footballer.

“The equalizer he scores (on Monday), he comes alive in the box, Archer; that’s what he does. It’s a poacher’s finish into the roof of the net.”

Archer was on the fringes of the first team at Aston Villa before joining Middlesbrough on loan in the January window.

And the forward quickly forced his way into the starting XI, helping Michael Carrick’s side finish fourth in the Championship on 75 points and secure a playoff spot.

They face fifth-placed Coventry City on Friday in the first leg of their playoff tie.

Archer scored in Boro’s final game against Coventry City on Monday, equalizing in first-half stoppage to cancel Gustavo Hamer’s 22nd-minute strike.

Archer qualifies to represent Reggae Boys through his mother.
