FLOWING HEARTS INC. LAUNCHES ‘THE LAND OF SPRINGS FUNDRAISER TO HELP FIGHT TECH POVERTY ON THE ISLAND OF JAMAICA NEW YORK – Flowing Hearts Inc. a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower underprivileged children in the United States and the Caribbean is hosting a fundraiser to purchase computers, tablets, iPods, Wi-Fi access, etc., for children on the island of Jamaica.

Globally COVID-19 has changed the way children can learn and communicate, causing unprecedented challenges for schools on the island-nation; it has also shined a light on the invisible barriers to learning caused by tech poverty.

Founder Kimberley Coke says, “the idea for this fundraiser was birthed when my cousin in Jamaica asked me to help purchase a computer for her children, as they were about to start learning remotely due to the coronavirus.” Kimberley, a Jamaican-American scientist, began to think about the hundreds of other students on the island experiencing tech poverty. She knew that without proper computer equipment, students would be unable to learn effectively.

Education has been a way out of poverty, says Kimberley; therefore, children must be prepared with the necessary equipment to excel. I don’t want them to be set back further because of the pandemic. Through ‘The Land of Springs’ fundraiser, Flowing Hearts wants to raise $20,000 to ensure 200 Jamaican school-age students receive technology access by November 30th, 2020.
