PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti– A former Haitian police officer linked to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse is now in the custody of authorities in the French-speaking Caribbean nation after being arrested in the neighboring Dominican Republic.

Tanis Philomé, who was detained by police acting on an international arrest warrant, was handed over at the town of Dajabón.

He has denied any involvement in the July 7, 2021 assassination.

Philomé, who had been part of the president’s security team, is one of several suspects arrested in connection with Moïse’s killing at his home in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

It is alleged that a group of mainly foreign mercenaries carried out the attack.

Despite arresting several people in connection with the alleged contract killing, authorities have struggled to solve the case.
