ADDIS Ababa, Ethiopia, CMC—Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley arrived here on Thursday for the start of a state visit that coincides with the 38th African Union (AU) Summit.

On arrival at the Bole International Airport, she was met by her host, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. “I am pleased to welcome Prime Minister Mia Mottley of the Republic of Barbados to Ethiopia,” Abiy said in a brief statement.

In a statement posted on X, Prime Minister Mottley said she was “looking forward to finding pathways to work more closely together.”

Mottley is being accompanied by Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Alexander McDonald and Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, the island’s Ambassadors to Kenya and Ghana.

The AU summit, which is being held under the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” is being attended by heads of state and government from all 55 AU member countries as well as representatives from international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

It will focus on advancing reparatory justice and fostering racial healing across the continent.

The 38th ordinary session of the assembly of the AU heads of state ends on Sunday.
