Dominica President Saverin Visits Brooklyn

 

(BROOKLYN, New York): President of Dominica Charles Savarin and First Lady Clara Savarin, recently visited Brooklyn and were invited to a meet and greet event at home of Dr. Jean Joseph, CPA. To meet with prominent members of the Brooklyn community.

The Dominica president was accompanied by Ms. Loreen Bannis Roberts Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the United Nations.

 

Also attending the “get together “were the Congresswomen Yvette Clarke, Frank Seddio Kings County Democratic Party leader, deputy Brooklyn Borough president Chaplain Ingrid P Lewis Martin, representatives from the office of Assembly member Jamie Williams, the Mayor’s office, New York City and State comptroller’s office, Brooklyn judges and Brooklyn attorneys

 

Dr. Una Clarke of the Progressive Democrats Political Association (PDPA), Dr. Roy Hastick, President of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) and Dr. Eda Hastick from Medgar Evers College were also present and mixed and mingled with the guests.

 

Dr Jean Joseph, president of the West Indian American Carnival Association (WIADCA) has hosted many Caribbean VIPS – including Dr. Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow, the Calypso King of the World. Opening her home to President Saverin is another addition to the long list of prominent people that she’s broke bread with over the years. A contingent from WIADCA were also present.

 

President Saverin was presented with a New York Assembly citation from the office of Assembly member Jamie Williams as well as a proclamation from Congresswoman Yvette Clarke.  The President discussed the impacts of climate change and the future of renewable energy in Dominica. He also gave a progress report on how his country was progressing post after the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
