BRAMPTON, Ontario, CMC – Barbadian all-rounder Matthew Forde redeemed himself with a tidy bowling spell after failing with the bat and enabled Surrey Jaguars to clinch a 55-run win against Mississauga Panthers in the Global Twenty20 tournament on Friday in Canada.

The 21-year-old former West Indies Under-19 all-rounder ended two for 14 from three overs, including the well-spent “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle, and the Jaguars bowled out the Panthers for 109 in 17 overs in the 13th match of the tournament at the CAA Centre.

Forde bowled Gayle for three in his second over. Still, Panthers finished the Power Play strongly on 60 for one thanks to a second wicket stand of 48 between South African left-hander Cameron Delport and Canada wicketkeeper-batsman Shreyas Movva.

Delport led the way with 33, but the dismissals of Movva for 31 in the ninth over triggered a spectacular batting collapse in which nine wickets fell for 48 in the span of 50 balls, including Forde getting burly Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan bowled for 14 in his final over.

Nepal leg-spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane took three for 18 from three overs. Australian left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson captured three for 25 from four overs and was the principal architect of the Panther’s collapse.

Earlier, Forde made only one before he was caught behind off United Arab Emirates pacer Zahoor Khan, whose three for 36 from four overs made him the pick of the Panthers bowlers, and Jaguars were restricted to 164 for six from their 20 overs.

Oman opener Jaitinder Singh hit five fours and one six in the top score of 57 off 45 balls to earn the Player-of-the-Match award and shared a half-century, first wicket stand with England opener Alex Hales, and Jaguars ended the Power Play on 60 for one.

Bangladesh batsman Litton Das made 25 and put on 74 for the second wicket with Singh, but his dismissal triggered a rocky period in which five wickets tumbled for 13 in the space of 21 balls, robbing the Jags of a more significant total.
