Barbadian Jacob Bethell has been named in England’s ODI squad to face Australia in September.

LONDON, CMC – Barbadian all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been named in England’s One Day International for next month’s home series against Australia. Bethell, 20, who attended Harrison College and played for Warwickshire, is among three players who have been handed white-ball call-ups for the first time.

Bethell and his Warwickshire teammate Dan Mousley had been tipped for inclusion on their excellent form in the T20 Blast and Hundred competitions. He will join fellow Barbadian Jofra Archer, also included in the 15-member squad.

Bethell was part of England’s Under-19 team that reached the World Cup final in 2022. He was imposing in the quarterfinal against South Africa, scoring 88 from 42 balls.

Josh Hull has also received his maiden ODI call-up, Brydon Carse returns after serving a three-month suspension for betting breaches, while the uncapped John Turner is also included in both squads.

There was no place for veterans Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, or Chris Jordan, all of whom were involved at the T20 World Cup in June. Neither Tom Hartley, who was with the squad in the Caribbean but has yet to be capped in T20Is, nor Rehan Ahmed were included.

Fast bowler Mark Wood also misses out through injury.
