PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Jamaica recorded deaths from the coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic on Sunday, and Barbados reported one new case of the virus.
The Ministry of Health here said that an elderly man with “multiple co-morbidities” had died, bringing the death toll here to 159.
The island recorded 84 new cases of the virus, pushing the number of active cases here to 1,343.
The ministry said there are 237 persons in state-controlled quarantine facilities, while 1,116 are in home isolation.
Guyana’s death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic climbed by two on Sunday, with an 80-year-old from Region 4 (Demerara- Mahaica) and a 51-year- old from Region 3 being the latest causalities. Their death brings to 283 the number of people who have died since the first case was detected in March last year.
So far this month, the country has recorded 50 deaths.
Previously, October 2020 was the deadliest month for Guyana since the pandemic started in March 2020 with 44 deaths.
In Jamaica, four older men are the latest reported fatalities from COVID-19. The Ministry of Health and Wellness said that the men were between the ages of 73 to 86 –years old and that two other deaths are being investigated.
The authorities said that the overall death count from the disease is now 760, since March 2020 ad that 258 people are now being treated at the hospital. Thirty-two are critically ill.
Jamaica recorded 137 new cases of COVID-19, tipping the country’s overall case count, since March 2020, to just above 45,000.
Only one new positive case (a female) of COVID-19 was reported in Barbados over the past 24 hours from the 321 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
The authorities said nine people recovered from the viral illness and were discharged. Currently, 104 persons are in isolation.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded from March 2020 have moved to 3,825, while 3,735 people have recovered. The death toll from the virus is 44.
