COUNCIL MEMBER MATHIEU EUGENE PARTNERS WITH THE OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATIVE TRIALS AND HEARINGS FOR THE VIRTUAL NEIGHBORHOOD POP-UP COURT FOR SANITATION SUMMONSES

(Brooklyn, New York) March 23, 2021 – Council Member Mathieu Eugene is partnering with The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings to hold a RemOATH Virtual Neighborhood Pop-Up Court on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 from 9am – 4pm. Constituents may call 718-287-8762 to find out if their sanitation summonses are eligible for a hearing. The call-in event is for sanitation summonses only, and constituents must make an appointment.

“I want to commend and thank the leadership of The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings for partnering with my office for this very important virtual pop-up court,” said Council Member Mathieu Eugene. “As the community continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that we expand how resources are made available to the general public. I have been honored to partner with OATH for a number of events over the past year that are designed to educate and inform my constituents on what to do when they receive a summons. This event is focused on summonses issued by the Department of Sanitation, and I believe it is a convenient way for constituents who have received a summons to find out if they are eligible to have a hearing and get due process. We want hardworking New Yorkers to be aware they may be eligible to receive a virtual hearing, even when offices are closed, and my partnership with OATH is one of many resources we are providing for that purpose.”

“OATH is proud to provide this service as we continue to try to find innovative ways to expand access to justice for New Yorkers, even during this difficult time,” said OATH Commissioner Joni Kletter.

For more information, constituents are invited to call 718-287-8762, Monday through Friday, from 9am – 5pm.
