Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) issued the following statement regarding the Thursday evening arson incident outside of the Yeshiva of Flatbush:

“Yesterday, our community was faced with another attempt to spread hate and intolerance among us. Let’s send a strong message to the perpetrator of this shameful act by locking hands in unity instead. This misguided arsonist fails to realize that our Brooklyn nation is home to diverse peoples, cultures, and religions. And that is precisely what makes Brooklyn a special community. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and still call it home. Yesterday’s hateful act against our community is the antithesis of everything we stand for. We will not tolerate it,” said Clarke. “I condemn the assault against the Yeshivah of Flatbush. To the intended targets of this attack, know you are loved and welcome in this community, and you always will be. One misguided soul cannot and will not change that.”
