BARBADOS-CRIME-Former national player among persons killed over the weekend

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados– A former national youth footballer is among two people shot and killed here over the past 48 hours, police have confirmed.

They said that Kobe Shepherd, 26, was shot on Sunday, becoming the 36th murder for the year so far.

The police said Shepherd was outside his home when the incident occurred. They said he was shot multiple times about the body by a pillion rider on a motorcycle.

Shepherd was taken for medical treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by a private vehicle but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shepherd represented Barbados at the youth level and recently played for the University of the West Indies Blackbirds in the earlier rounds of the Republic Cup.

Police are also investigating another murder following the death of a 47-year-old man on Sunday night.

Police said they had received a report around 10:15 pm (local time) that Mark Anthony Armstrong man ran into the Fairchild Street Terminal in the capital after being shot, where he collapsed and died.
