BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados police have appealed to a person whom they regard as the primary suspect to turn himself over to law enforcement authorities as they probe the deadly shooting over the weekend that left three people dead and eight others injured.
Police have identified the main suspect as Jakobi Talik Germain, or Bornaman.
“We’re urging Mr. Germain that the Criminal Investigation Department needs him to assist with some of these investigations into incidents of violent crime that we are experiencing,” Detective Inspector Mitchell Roach, head of the Major Crimes Unit, told a news conference on Sunday night.
“We’re urging him that if he intends to do so, he can be accompanied by an attorney, a law friend of his choice. I’m not even just mentioning a specific police station but any police station. Still, Mr Germain, we seek you to assist with these investigations regarding these violent crimes.”.
Police said that the deaths occurred on Saturday on Nelson Street in the heart of the capital after gunmen opened fire on patrons at a local bar.
Roach told reporters that “recently, we’ve been experiencing a spate of violent crimes, in the Southern Division, most recently in the Northern Division …and also before in the city, in the area of Nelson Street”.
Roach confirmed that Germain had been seen at the bar on Nelson Street shortly before the attack, adding that his cooperation was critical to advancing the investigation.
The senior police official said Germain is suspected of being involved in other criminal activities and added, “We intend to carry out vigorous investigations and policing efforts in the areas.”
