NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – The state-owned Bahamasair is investigating an incident involving a flight attendant at Cap-Haïtien International Airport in Haiti on March 1.
“Bahamasair is taking this matter very seriously and is reviewing all relevant procedures to ensure that our stringent security measures are upheld,” the airline said in a statement, adding that it is “cooperating fully with the Haitian National Police and other relevant authorities.
“The Royal Bahamas Police Force and our local Interpol have also been contacted to launch an investigation,” the airline said, adding that “no further updates will be released until we have been informed with further facts on this matter.”
The airline gave no details of the incident. Still, Bahamasair had previously suspended flights to the French-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country in late 2024 due to gunfire incidents at Port-au-Prince’s airport, which injured crew members from other airlines.
Haitian media reported that the police in Haiti, along with security agents at the Cap-Haïtien International Airport, seized US$106,260 on March 1 in a package that came from The Bahamas and was transported on a Bahamasair flight.
According to the Haitian police, the package was sent in the name of a Haitian man who is a resident of Nassau and was intended for two Haitian nationals in Haiti.
