MIRAMAR, Florida, CMC—St Vincent & the Grenadines distance runner Shafiqua Maloney continued her rich vein of form with a comfortable win in the women’s 600 meters at the Miramar Invitational on Saturday in the United States.
The 25-year-old was one of four English-speaking Caribbean athletes who won the Ansin Sports Complex events.
Two-time women’s world 400m bronze medallist Sada Williams, Jamaican sprint hurdler Tyler Mason, and Bahamian quarter miler Alonzo Russell were also successful during the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event.
Maloney, the SVG women’s 800 national record holder, added the 600 national records to her accomplishments when she clocked one minute, 23.80 seconds.
Sadi Henderson was second in 1 min, 27.81 secs, and fellow American Ajee Wilson was third in 1:27.86.
Williams won the women’s 200 in 22.82 seconds from Ida Karstoft of Denmark, who finished in 23.01, and Kynnedy Flannel of the United States with a time of 23.32.
Mason clocked 13.57 to win the men’s 110 hurdles, with American Eric Edwards taking second in 13.60 and Andrew Pozzi of Great Britain finishing third in 13.63.
Russell ran a season’s best 45.35 to win the men’s 400, finishing one hundredths-of-a-second ahead of Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic, with Wendell Miller of The Bahamas third in 46 flat.
Ackeem Blake of Jamaica ran 10.28 to finish second in the men’s 100m in a tight finish behind Courtney Lindsey, whose time was the same, while Andre Ewers clocked 10.43 to take third.
Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd, the 2019 World Championships silver medallist, threw 18.72 meters and finished third in the women’s shot putt; Chase Jackson of the United States won the event with 19.88m, and compatriot Maggie Ewen was runner-up with a measurement of 18.95.
Chanice Porter of Jamaica leaped 6.36m and finished second in the women’s long jump, two centimeters off the best jump of American winner Taliyah Brooks. In contrast, Alysbeth Felix-Boyer of Puerto Rico leaped a season’s best 6.28 and was third.
