
MIAMI, Florida, CMC – Saint Lucia’s Olympic champion Julien Alfred blazed to a world-leading time in the women’s 200 meters to claim victory at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational here in Gainesville on Friday.
Competing in the opening heat at the Pearcy Beard Track, Alfred crossed the finishing line in 21.88 ahead of Favour Ofili of Nigeria in second in 22.34, while USA’s Tamari Davis (22.37) placed third.
They were the three fastest times of the five heats contested.
Jamaica’s Niesha Burgher, who also competed in heat one, clocked 23.09 seconds to be 10th fastest overall.
Competing in the second heat, Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica was 11th fastest overall after placing fourth in 23.10 seconds. Her compatriot Stacey-Ann Williams won heat four in 23.31 to be 14th fastest overall, and Alana Reid captured heat five in 23.33 seconds to be 15th fastest overall.
