KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has called off planned industrial action after receiving a salary increase offer from the government.
The JTA had rejected the government’s initial offer of zero percent in the first year and 2.5 percent each year for the remaining two years.
According to JTA President Mark Malabver, the pause is to allow the new offer to be tabled before the Salaries & Conditions of Service Committee of the Association, where it will be carefully considered.
He stated that, following due diligence, a formal response will be sent to the Ministry of Finance.
“The JTA wishes to emphasise, however, that this pause does not signal satisfaction. Rather, it represents the organisation’s ongoing commitment to a process of principled and constructive engagement, as we continue to advocate for fair and just treatment for Jamaica’s teachers,” the association said on Friday.
