PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – Haiti was this week elected by acclamation to the Vice-President of the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This is the first time in 77 years since its membership in UNESCO that Haiti has reached this position.
With this position, Haiti becomes a vital member of the governance of the Executive Council. It will notably be the voice of the 33 countries of the Latin America and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region.
This election was welcomed by interventions from more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Chile, Mexico, France, Switzerland, and the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
Haiti’s Permanent Ambassador Delegate to UNESCO, Dominique Dupuy, will represent Haiti on the Executive Council.
