TRINIDAD- Venezuelan coast guard helping in the search for missing fishermen

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The`Venezuelan Coast Guard has joined the search for the four fishermen who have been missing since January 31.

Speaking with the local publication, Newsday, the Member of Parliament for Mayaro, to the southeast of here, Rushton Paray, said that he has been in contact with Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Amery Browne, who also said that he is in touch with the Trinidadian embassy in Caracas, Venezuela to provide any assistance in finding the missing men.

Captain Vallence Rambharat of the Hunters Search and Rescue team believes that the four missing fishermen, Heeralal Cooblal, Rishi Khemchan, Andy George, and George Jotis, may be stranded in a desolate mangrove on the Venezuelan coast.

Rambharat said he met with the families of the missing men and fisherfolk from the area on Thursday night, and they confirmed that the men were seen fishing in a place they are accustomed to fishing in.

He said the Hunters team could only continue the search across the maritime border if accompanied by the air and coast guard. He said the team is helping to coordinate the rescue effort.
