CARIBBEAN–SECURITY-British and Caribbean security officials to meet in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC –Barbados will host the third annual United Kingdom-Caribbean Heads of Defence Staff Conference early next week.

The two-day conference beginning on Tuesday, will be hosted jointly by the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and the United Kingdom (UK) Armed Forces.

Chief of Staff Commodore Errington Shurland and the UK’s Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, will be among the speakers at the conference’s opening ceremony that provides a platform for multilateral discourse on current and emerging threats to the region.

The organizers said that the conference would also allow for an analysis of the issues impacting regional security, including humanitarian assistance disaster response cooperation, and an understanding of the United Kingdom’s perspective on assisting in the areas above.

During the high-level conference roundtable discussions, the organizers added that the military heads and other stakeholders would explore the UK’s support for regional initiatives, the multidimensionality of the regional threat environment, and capacity development through training, consultation, and other industries.
