CHARLESTOWN, Nevis–Premier Mark Brantley is calling for an end to “violence in all its forms” as law enforcement authorities continue their investigations into a fire on Monday that they believe had been deliberately set and resulted in the deaths of two people.

“Our island has had some truly tragic news over the past several days,” Brantley wrote on his Facebook page, adding that the events on Monday “highlighted the horrible human capacity for cruelty.

“My deepest condolences to those who mourn and my fervent hope that as a society, we can end violence in all its forms,” he added.

Media reports here said that a man, believed to be a Guyanese national, was with his ex-girlfriend and her male friend when he allegedly stabbed one of the women and then set the house on fire before taking his own life.

The police have given the names of those killed as Standford Azore and the ex-girlfriend, Sheryl Grosvenor, while the friend is recovering in hospital from his injuries.

The authorities said that the bodies of the two adults had been recovered from the charred remains of the house. The sources said that they were the parents of two children.

Investigations are continuing.
