WASHINGTON, CMC – The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency says, as a component agency of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and working in close coordination across the department, including with US Customs and Border Protection, it has continued to facilitate removal flights of single adults and family units to Latin America and the Caribbean.

ICE said on Friday that it has facilitated removal flights to Jamaica, Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico between May 27 and May 30.

“If a noncitizen arrives and has no legal basis to remain in the United States, they are processed and removed quickly, consistent with US law,” ICE said.

Over the course of the past year, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through its component agency, ICE, has taken significant action. They have removed or returned over 742,000 individuals, the majority of whom crossed the southwest border of the United States. This includes more than 111,000 individual family members, underscoring the scale of the issue.

ICE said total removals and returns since mid-May exceed in every fiscal year since 2011.

“In keeping with standard practice, the United States ensures that all noncitizens without a legal basis to remain in the United States are properly screened for valid protection claims and withholding of removal by our laws and US international obligations,” ICE said.

“This applies to all noncitizens, regardless of nationality, to ensure the orderly and humane processing, transfer, and removal of single adults and family units,” it added.

ICE’s Air Operations plays a crucial role in the transfer and removal of noncitizens, including family units. They do this by utilizing both commercial airlines and chartered flights, providing vital support to ICE’s field offices and other initiatives within the Department of Homeland Security.

In fiscal year 2023, ICE said its Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted 142,580 removals and 62,545 Title 42 expulsions to more than 170 countries worldwide, including the Caribbean.
