BOSTON, CMC – The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency on Friday said agents from its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Boston, Massachusetts, apprehended a Dominican Republic national who is wanted by authorities in his home country for homicide.

ICE said deportation officers from ERO Boston arrested the 23-year-old Dominican Republic national on June 11 in Essex, Massachusetts. The Dominican Republic national was convicted locally for reckless endangerment of a child.

“This Dominican (Republic) national ran away from his home country to escape Dominican (Republic) law before making his way to Massachusetts,” said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. “Once he got here, he proved to be a threat to the children of our communities.

“We cannot allow our New England communities to become safe havens for the world’s criminals,” he added. “ERO Boston will continue to arrest and remove the most egregious noncitizen offenders from our neighborhoods.”

ICE said the Dominican Republic national lawfully entered the United States on August 24 on a nonimmigrant visa in 2018, but he violated the terms of his admission.

On April 24, 2019, Dominican Republic authorities issued a warrant for his arrest for homicide, ICE said.

It said that the Methuen Police Department in Massachusetts summoned the Dominican Republic fugitive on December 13, 2022, for reckless endangerment of a child.

ICE said the Lawrence District Court in Lawrence, Massachusetts, convicted him on January 19, 2024, for reckless endangerment of a child and sentenced him to an 18-month split sentence, where the fugitive would serve six months in prison to be followed by 12 months of probation.

Later that day, ICE said ERO Boston lodged an immigration detainer against him with the Essex County House of Correction.

ICE said deportation officers from ERO Boston arrested the Dominican Republic national on June 11, 2024, at the Essex County House of Correction in Massachusetts and served him a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge.

He will remain in ERO custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.
