Trinidad police arrest multiple suspects, including teens, in major home invasion case

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Police say four teenagers are assisting their investigations into several criminal activities after they were among several people arrested over the last weekend following primary home invasion bus operations.

The police said that the teenagers, ages 14, 15, 16, and 17, are assisting their inquiries also into a range of criminal activities, including burglary, grievous sexual assault, and possession of ammunition.

The police said that a “strategic intelligence-led anti-crime operation” led to the arrests of seven suspects and the seizure of ammunition and spent shell casings, as police intensify efforts to curb a recent spike in serious crimes.

They said the operation was coordinated under the State of Emergency(SoE) Regulations, specifically targeting individuals connected to recent reports of home invasions, burglary, and grievous sexual assault.

“As a result of extensive investigations, surveillance, and intelligence gathering, seven individuals were arrested, including four teenagers linked to recent violent offences. Police also seized one magazine containing three rounds of 9mm ammunition and two spent 9mm shell casings during the exercise,” the statement said.

The police said that preliminary information suggests that five of the individuals are directly linked to a series of home invasions and sexual assaults reported in the Cumuto South Trace area of Barrackpore, a town in southern Trinidad.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service remains committed to disrupting criminal networks and restoring safety to affected communities. Investigations are ongoing and charges are expected to be laid shortly,” the statement said.
