Trinidad police seize over one million dollars in cash as woman assists with ongoing investigation
Law enforcement officers in Trinidad recovered more than one million dollars in cash during an operation, with a woman assisting in the investigation.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Police say a woman is assisting their investigations after they seized more than one million dollars (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) in cash from a house on the outskirts of the capital earlier this week.

The police said that the TT$1.8 million was found at her Maraval home during an exercise including the Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Inter-Agency Task Force.

According to the police, the search of the house resulted in the discovery of a safe containing TT$1,853,600 and $837 in Barbadian currency (One Barbados dollar = 0.50 cents), as well as four police patches and a pair of black tactical pants.

The police said that the suspect’s mother, who was in the house at the time of the exercise, was taken into custody. Personnel from the Financial Investigations Bureau (FIB) were contacted, and the cash was seized in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Act.
