PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands, CMC – Plans to digitally transform and enhance the efficiency of the court system in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) are being advanced to improve access to justice for everyone.
During a recent courtesy visit with Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mabel Agyemang, Executive Director of the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions (CAJS), Bevil Wooding, and CAJS Chief Technology Officer, Richard Wall, discussed finalizing plans for initiating a pioneering project to the islands’ judiciary system.
Wooding said CAJS plans to implement the Curia Court Management System, which the company developed, to bring electronic filing and automated case management technology to all courts.
Chief Justice Agyemang expressed her eagerness to move on the project, saying she was “delighted to welcome the CAJS team to discuss the important work of introducing digital transformation to the judiciary.” She added that “this introduction of the CAJS Curia technology represents a significant step forward in modernizing the justice system in the Turks and Caicos to make it more efficient and effective for all users.”
Joined by other senior court officials, the parties also explored potential areas of collaboration, including CAJS support for mediation and legal aid programs in TCI. This was welcomed by the Chief Justice, who indicated that “it will play a vital role in ensuring that everyone has access to justice, regardless of their financial means.”
She noted: “I am excited about the potential for this pioneering initiative, and I look forward to deepening our collaboration with the CAJS.”
Meanwhile, Wooding said he welcomed the productive discussion with the Chief Justice and senior court officials and added that CAJS is committed to supporting the judiciary and legal fraternity in the TCI, as it has successfully done in other benches in the region.
“We believe that by working together, we can help to transform the justice system and make it more responsive to the needs of the people it serves. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the judiciary and exploring further opportunities for collaboration,” he said.
CAJS is a regional organization with a mandate to promote access to justice, court modernization, and strengthening of the rule of law through a range of capacity building, technology innovation, technical assistance, and policy reform programs.
