BASSETRRE, St. Kitts, CMC – Police have launched an investigation into the circulation of a video on social media describing the contents as “absolutely unacceptable”.

The Ministry of Ecclesiastical and Faith-Based Affairs, in collaboration with the St. Kitts Evangelical Association, the Christian Council, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has also “strongly condemned” the behaviour depicted in the video.

The police said its Special Victims Unit has opened an “immediate investigation” into the matter after earlier expressing “outrage” at the contents. The law enforcement authorities are urging persons with “any information, PLEASE come forward”.

In the video, several women who are almost naked are seen dancing in a vulgar manner at the Basseterre Ferry Terminal.

In their statement, the faith-based organisations said that the actions depicted in the video “have no place in our public spaces and do not reflect the moral and spiritual values of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“As a nation rooted in Christian principles, we are called to uphold decency, self-respect, and respect for others. Public conduct should honor God, protect our children, and preserve the dignity of our communities,” they said, adding “we therefore urge all citizens to conduct themselves responsibly and, in a manner, befitting our faith-based heritage”.

The police, in a separate statement, warned that they would adopt a zero-tolerance approach to public indecency throughout the Christmas–Carnival season.

They warned that “behaviour of this nature is not only inappropriate, but illegal” and that “the law is explicit, and enforcement will be strict”.

According to the police, under the Small Charges Act, any person, “who behaves indecently in a public place, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month”.

The police reiterated that there are other acts under the legislation that “are arrestable and jailable offences, and no exemption or excuse exists for such behaviour committed during festivities, celebrations, or entertainment events”.

“As the Federation enters the Christmas and Carnival period, the Police Force reiterates its operational stance for the season: Zero Tolerance. Zer0 Excuse

“Any acts of indecency, lewd exposure, disorderly conduct, and behaviour that violates the Small Charges Act (2017) or any other law will attract immediate police intervention. The public is therefore strongly urged to conduct themselves appropriately in all public spaces, including entertainment venues, streets, and Carnival activities,” the police warned.
