FORT ERIE, Canada, CMC – Barbadian jockey Da-Sean Gaskin rode his second brace in as many days as possible to keep in touch with the leaders in the early exchanges at Fort Erie.
Riding on Tuesday’s eight-race card, Gaskin captured race one over 6-½ furlongs with favorite Persevere before winning race seven over the same distance with another favorite Amazing Success.
Gaskin’s Success follows Monday’s brace, taking him to nine wins for the season, which began May 28 and ends October 22.
Sofia Vives leads with 15 wins, two clear of Edgar Zenteno, with Alexis Sanchez third on 13 and Jamaican Kirk Johnson fourth on 12.
Gaskin wasted little time in making his presence felt, combining with three-year-old bay colt Persevere to trounce the three-year-old and upward maidens by four lengths in the curtain-raiser.
Two-to-one chance Drillhall produced the early fractions with a 3-1 bet Signonthedottenline in pursuit, but Gaskin chased with Persevere before taking control in the stretch.
In contrast, his second win was a narrow one. He steered a three-year-old bay gelding to victory over the three-year-olds and upward by a neck.
Extraordinary Success dueled through the half-mile with a 4-1 chance Absolute Chairman in a time of 46.14 seconds, and not even a heated stretch battle could separate the pair until Gaskin got his gelding up on the head bob.
Jamaican Mark-Lee Buchanan also found Success on the day’s card with favorite Love My Cheryl in race two over five furlongs, while fellow countryman Johnson won with 3-1 choice Hermione Granger in race three also over five furlongs.
