WINNIPEG, Manitoba, CMC—Barbadian Dario Dalrymple won twice to lead Caribbean domination of the seven-race card at Assiniboia Downs on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old was forced to wait until race five before tasting success with 2-1 choice Woke Joke and returned in the day’s finale to score with favorite Load Abroad.
Despite the success, Dalrymple lies ninth with eight wins from 52 appearances and is well adrift of leader Trinidadian Prayven Badrie, on 28.
Barbadian Antonio Whitehall (25), Damario Bynoe (24), and Trinidadian Ronald Ali (21) are all challenging the leader.
Dalrymple narrowly missed out in race one by a head aboard 4-1 bet Far Beyond in his only ride before finding his way into the winners’ enclosure when he guided four-year-old chestnut filly Woke Joke to a handsome 2-¾ length win over the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares.
In a six-furlong sprint, 6-1 choice Pam’s Awesome and 12-1 bet Blue Tango disputed the lead before Dalrymple produced a rail run with Woke Joke to grab the lead mid-stretch and reach the wire strongly.
His second win came in another six-furlong trip when he partnered with five-year-old roan mare Load Abroad to edge the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length.
Casino Queen emerged as the leader after disputing the lead with Downthestreetdebby and Always the Lil One before Load Abroad came from a stalking position to take over the running late.
Whitehall, meanwhile, captured race one over 5-½ furlongs with 13-1 bet Screenplay, Badrie won race two over six furlongs with 15-1 bet Blame It On Brew while Bynoe took race three over 7-½ furlongs with favorite McKague.
Jamaican Dane Dawkins also tasted success when he paired with 11-1 choice Silver Sign to win race six over 5-½ furlongs.
