GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The police are investigating an incident in which a 35-year-old Venezuelan man was injured when a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) boat collided with his vessel in the vicinity of Eteringbang Landing, to the west of here, on Friday.
The police report that Vergil Brown, a Venezuelan gold miner, was the captain of a 40 HP engine boat carrying two passengers when the GDF boat collided with him in the Cuyuni River.
The GDF boat was reportedly returning to the Eteringbang soldier base after purchasing groceries.
As a result of the collision, Brown’s boat was substantially damaged and sunk. He and the two passengers were taken to shore.
However, Brown was the only one to have sustained injuries. He was taken to the Eteringbang Medical Center and later transferred to a medical facility in Venezuela.
