GUYANA-Former accountant granted bail on multi-million dollar theft.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – A former accountant at a local telecommunications company, Quincy Baird, has been granted one million dollars (One Guyana dollar = 0.004 cents) bail after he appeared in court on Monday, charged with the theft of more than GUY$153.9 million from the company.

Baird, who now operates and manages a photography company, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with the offense of Larceny by Clerk or Servant.

He was not required to enter a plea and will return to court on February 11 next year.

As part of the bail conditions, Baird is required to lodge his passport with the court, have no contact with any employees of the telecommunications company, and report to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters every second Friday of the month.

The police allege that the theft from the telecommunications company dates back more than three years.
