LONDON, CMC—Reggae Girl Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has been shortlisted for Manchester City Women’s Player-of-the-Month award following her historic achievement for the North England powerhouses.
Last month, the 27-year-old Shaw became the club’s all-time leading goal scorer when she overtook Georgia Stanway’s record of 67.
Shaw scored five goals in total – against Everton at the Joie Stadium, away to Brighton, and against rivals Manchester United at the Etihad before blasting in a double against Liverpool at Prenton Park.
Shaw now has 70 career goals for City, which she joined from the French side of Bordeaux three years ago, and 19 for the season.
“She’s a unique player. Not only does she give us the goals, but she’s also a big focal point,” City manager Gareth Taylor said after Shaw eclipsed Stanway’s mark.
However, Shaw, City’s Player-of-the-Year for last season, faces stiff competition for the March award. Midfielder Jess Park scored twice against United and produced one assist before scoring in the domination of Liverpool.
Lauren Hemp, meanwhile, banged in three goals and registered one assist, complementing her ability in front of goal with her energy and creativity in midfield.
City is challenging for the Women’s Super League title this season and is currently at the top of the table with 46 points – three points clear of defending champions Chelsea, having played a game more.
