LONDON, CMC – Barbados international Hallam Hope was one of 15 players that English League 2 side Morecambe FC welcomed aboard ahead of the 2024-25 campaign under manager Derek Adams.
The lifting of the English Football League embargo on Thursday paved the way for Morecambe’s significant signing of 15 players, marking a crucial turning point for the team.
As they are known, the Shrimps were placed in an embargo in March over non-payment of a value-added tax bill, but they have subsequently settled the amount with English revenue authorities.
Hope, 30, started his career with Everton and has spent the past three seasons with Oldham, an English National League club.
He agreed to a one-year contract with Morecambe with an option for an extra year and will join fellow former Oldham striker Ben Toillit in adding strength in depth in the final third.
With Morecambe finishing 15th last season, manager Derek Adams is banking on the experience and skill of Hope and Toillit to inject a new level of inspiration and performance into the team’s frontline.
Hope became eligible to represent Barbados through his father, Russell, who emigrated to England, but his paternal grandfather hails from Trinidad & Tobago.
Hope’s international career has been eventful. He made his senior international debut six years ago, scoring two goals against Guyana in Nations League qualifying. However, Concacaf initially ruled him ineligible, a decision that was later overturned, allowing him to return to international duty.
Hope returned to international duty the following year, scoring twice in a 3-0 win against the Cayman Islands to secure Barbados’ promotion into League B of the Nations League, a status they have subsequently lost.
