LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy recruit Devante Cole has joined Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal following his exit from League One Barnsley.

The 29-year-old banged in 18 league goals for the Tykes but was one of five players released last May after the club lost to Bolton in the playoffs semi-final.

Cole, the son of Manchester United legend Andy Cole, is West Brom’s fifth-season signing ahead of their campaign, which opens August 10 against Queen’s Park Rangers.

“I’m excited to be back in the Championship. It was one of my goals to get back to this division as quickly as possible,” said Cole, who featured in the second tier for Barnsley two years ago.

“I’m coming here to Albion after a good season at Barnsley. I’ll bring much hard work to the team and hope to be a real threat.

“I’ve got to take my chance when I get it, but when I get my chance, I’m confident I can score goals.”

Cole, who was called up by Jamaica last year but did not feature, enjoyed an outstanding last season with a hattrick in his opening game as Barnsley thrashed Port Vale 7-0.

He struck a brace against Burton Albion in a purple patch that saw him notch nine goals in as many games.

West Brom manager Carlos Corberán said Cole would add to the Baggies goal-scoring options.

“I would like to welcome Devante to the club. Devante is an energetic, hardworking striker who also has pace,” said Corberán

“He arrives after scoring goals in League One last season and will provide further attacking competition to the squad.”

West Brom reached the playoffs after finishing fifth in the Championship, only to lose to Southampton.
