BRIDGETOWN, Barbados– The Barbados-based Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), Monday said that some parts of the Caribbean,  particularly western Belize, will enter the wet season feeling the impacts of drought to varying degrees.

In the latest Caribbean Drought Bulletin released here, CIMH said this will likely continue until June or July.

“However, with increasing rains, it is expected that there will be little to no concern over short-term drought by the end of August. There is also little to no concern over long-term drought by the end of November,” it added.

CIMH said that over the past three-month period, conditions throughout the eastern Caribbean were predominantly normal to above average, adding, “We advise all stakeholders to keep monitoring their environment for signs of drought.”

It said that short-term might continue or possibly develop in the French island of Martinique up to August, while “there is no concern for long term drought across the region” until November this year.
