Guyana is making final preparations to host the upcoming FIBA Women’s Caribbean Basketball Championship, welcoming teams from across the region.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has declared the nation ready and eager to welcome the Caribbean’s best, as the countdown begins to the highly anticipated FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship this November.

GBF President Michael Singh has reaffirmed the country’s full preparedness to host the tournament, scheduled for November 12-16 at the iconic Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. This marks the first time since 1994 that Guyana has staged the prestigious event.

“We are ready to deliver a world-class event,” Singh stated confidently. “We look forward to this being one of the best Women’s Championships the region has ever seen.”

The championship will feature a thrilling five-team showdown between the Bahamas, Jamaica, Suriname, the Virgin Islands, and host nation Guyana.

The stakes are incredibly high, with the top three finishers securing coveted qualification for the 2026 Centrobasket Women’s Championship.

Singh credited the successful preparations to the “full backing” of the Government of Guyana. Following an inspection visit by FIBA officials, several key upgrades were identified for the venue, and Singh confirmed that the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport has been actively addressing every requirement.

“We’ve been having constant discussions with the Ministry, and they’re just as excited as we are,” Singh said, expressing gratitude for the step-by-step involvement of Ministers Charles Ramson Jr. and Steven Jacobs.

The tournament will follow a round-robin format, promising a basketball spectacle as each team battles every other. With the nation’s pride on the line, Singh issued a rallying cry to the Guyanese public.

“We have an experienced Local Organizing Committee, and we look forward to seeing every Guyanese come out to support our national team and enjoy top-level basketball,” he said.
