NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC -A veteran police officer has been placed on US$1,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of libel after the prosecution said he unlawfully swore an affidavit earlier this year with the intent to defame a prominent business person.
Delmar Taylor, 39, broke down in tears as he was arraigned before Deputy Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest Deveaux on a charge of intentional libel. He is accused of making the defamatory statements against Derek Osborne, a partner and senior actuary at TELUS International Health Bahamas, on July 17.
Taylor, who is due to re-appear in court on March 9, 2026, faces the possibility of two years in jail if he is found guilty at his trial.
Taylor, a 19-year veteran of the police force, has been suspended and placed on half-pay until his trial is completed.
