Reggae Boyz strengthen squad for World Cup qualifiers

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Reggae Boyz have intensified their preparations for the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, welcoming a full squad to camp this week. Head Coach Steve McClaren has reinforced his defensive and midfield options with the additions of defender Jamoi Topey and midfielder Ronaldo Webster to the roster for the crucial matches against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago.

The team, which arrived at camp on Monday, held its first training session at the historic Sabina Park on Tuesday morning, focusing on tactics and cohesion ahead of the high-stakes fixtures.

Mount Pleasant Academy defender Jamoi Topey returns to the national set-up, bringing valuable experience. The centre-back has earned nine caps for Jamaica, with his most recent appearance coming in a commanding 3-0 victory over Guatemala in November 2023.

His familiarity with the international stage is expected to solidify the Reggae Boyz’s backline, which also features English League defenders Ethan Pinnock and Mason Holgate.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo Webster will be looking to build on his previous national team experience. The midfielder made his debut for the senior squad in a 1-1 international friendly draw against Qatar in 2022.

He will now have the opportunity to make his competitive debut in the qualifiers. The delegation is set to depart the island on Wednesday for Hamilton, Bermuda, where they will face the Gombey Warriors this Friday, September 5th.

Following the away fixture, the Reggae Boyz will return home to host the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago at the National Stadium on Monday, September 9.
