Trinidad law enforcement detained SoE
Security officials held during State of Emergency

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Friday said that it had detained two law enforcement officials as it continues to make significant inroads in dismantling criminal networks.

The police said that the two were among three suspects detained on Thursday under Preventive Detention Orders issued in accordance with the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2025, under the existing state of emergency (SoE).

According to the police, the coordinated intelligence-led operation was executed across the Port of Spain, North Eastern, and Northern Divisions, and acting under the authority of the State of Emergency, members of the Special Investigations Unit successfully served and executed three Preventive Detention Orders.

“All detainees were processed and taken into safe custody. Among the three detainees are two members of law enforcement – one a Police Officer and the other a Prison Officer,” the TTPS said in a statement.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro said the exercise underscores the strength of the TTPS’s intelligence apparatus and its capacity to act decisively against those seeking to destabilize the country.

“The TTPS will use every lawful measure available under the State of Emergency to disrupt and dismantle criminal syndicates. The TTPS is acting strategically and intentionally, which sends a clear message that the Police Service will do what is necessary to ensure that the rule of law will prevail,” he added.

More than 160 people have been detained since the SoE was imposed in July after the police said they had uncovered a plot to destabilize the country.
