TAIPEI, Taiwan, CMC – Taiwan has pledged continued support for Haiti, particularly in food aid and healthcare, as the French-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country faces ongoing political, security, and socio-economic challenges.

President Lai Ching-te, speaking during a meeting with Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, stated that Taiwan would intensify bilateral cooperation to enhance Haiti’s social infrastructure.

He stated that Taiwan will continue to support Haiti through initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare, food security, and overall development.

Taiwan and Haiti will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, and the head of state stated that the two countries will continue to support each other and deepen their bilateral ties.

“Cooperation between the two sides has borne fruit in critical areas such as educational cooperation and infrastructure. In recent years, Haiti has faced challenges including food shortages and inadequate medical care.

“Taiwan will continue to collaborate with Haiti through various cooperative projects to improve medical and health care, strengthen food security, and promote the development of people’s livelihoods,” he said.

Jean-Baptiste, meanwhile, reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Taipei and Port-au-Prince, saying they had contributed to Haiti’s development in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.

“With the world currently facing great challenges, and Haiti going through a challenging period, Taiwan and Haiti need to strengthen their solidarity and mutual assistance,” he said.

Jean-Baptiste said Taiwan has established itself as a responsible, peaceful, and innovative actor committed to global cooperation, adding that looking ahead, he looks forward to building a new chapter in bilateral relations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Jean-Baptiste is leading a five-member delegation to Taiwan, which is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
