JAMAICA- Veteran musician Desi Jones dies

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The musical fraternity in Jamaica and around the world is mourning the death of Desi Jones, one of the country’s pre-eminent musicians of the last half-century,

It’s reported that Jones, who was found unresponsive at home on Saturday, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 65

Jones first came to national and international prominence with the group Chalice. He later formed the band Skool, played with many renowned Jamaican recording artists, and wrote the instructional book The Art of Reggae Drumming.

His musical journey took him across the globe, touring extensively and recording with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Barrington Levy, Mutabaruka, Marcia Griffiths, and Monty Alexander, leaving an indelible mark on the international music scene.

In 2019, Jones received the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer for his contribution to the development of Jamaican music in jazz, show music, and reggae.
