LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy Demarai Gray has joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq from English Premier League side Everton.
The 27-year-old, a standout for Jamaica at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, where he scored twice, has reportedly signed a four-year deal worth eight million pounds sterling.
Winger Lowe joins an Al-Ettifaq side managed by former England star Steven Gerrard and will play alongside the recently acquired former Liverpool pair of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.
His move ends a troubled spell at Goodison Park, where he fell out with manager Sean Dyche and was yet to feature for Everton this season.
“There has been a lot of speculation about my situation all summer,” Gray said in an Instagram post Thursday.
“The truth is, I gave my all to this club on and off the pitch through good and evil. I was ready to play as much football as possible this season, but it felt like this would not happen.
“It’s time for my next chapter. I am match fit and excited to get playing.”
Gray joined Everton from German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and scored 12 goals in 75 appearances for the club.
However, he fell out of favor under Dyche, who replaced Frank Lampard last January and was linked with a move to Turkish side Besiktas during the summer transfer window.
Lowe appeared to criticize Dyche last week when he said, “It’s so difficult to play for someone who doesn’t show you respect as a person.”
Everton confirmed Lowe’s departure in a statement.
“Everton have sold Demarai Gray to Al-Ettifaq on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee,” the club said.
“Gray moves on after the Blues opted to sell the 27-year-old forward to the Saudi Arabian club. It ends his two-year spell on Merseyside, having signed from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.”
Gray thanked the club and fans for their support during his stay.
“I wish everyone at the club the best and will be forever proud to have played for this great team,” he said.
“To the fans, you were always incredible – thank you for your support. You made it a privilege to wear the shirt.”
